We want you to enter our studio feeling welcomed and ready for your first class. Our classes, taught by our passionate team, incorporate many styles including Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Hatha, Yoga Nidra and Yin Yoga.
Yoga is so much more than simply strengthening our physical body. Yoga postures are designed to support the subtle body and harmonise the nervous system bringing a great sense of clarity and peace over the body and mind.
Our open-level classes are perfect for those just starting out in yoga or for those who have been practising for some time.

I have never done yoga before, how do I get started?
All of the classes on our schedule, apart from the MySore, are open-levels so beginners are welcome to any of these classes. A gentle class to start your yoga journey and get familiar with your body is our Yin , Yin Yang or Slow Flow. Our teachers are passionate and dedicated yoga practitioners who are here to guide and support you with your yoga journey – that is their job! If you are still unsure or have any further questions, feel free to pop into our studio and one of our team members will get you started.
What do I need to do to prepare for a class?
Please wear comfortable workout attire. Layers are best, as your body temperature changes throughout your practice.
Be prepared to be barefoot.
Please refrain from wearing any colognes or perfumes.
We ask you to bring a towel if you tend to sweat a lot.
For beginners we happily provide mats free of charge and ask for you to use the mat cleaner to wipe your mats down at the end of class.
We do encourage you to purchase your own mat, as it is an important tool and a commitment to your own practice.
Avoid practicing with a full stomach, and drink plenty of water before class to remain hydrated throughout your practice.
Remember, yoga is a process. Be consistent in your practice. Be patient and compassionate with yourself.
YES! If you sign up for any of our Continuous Yoga packages or an Unlimited Yoga passes with us you can absolutely join us on the mat at either of our locations. That gives you access to over 30 yoga classes a week!
Can I attend yoga classes at both yoga studio locations?
Do I need to book for class in advance?
This is preferred but not a requirement. We do ask that arrive 10 minutes early so you can check in at the desk and acquaint yourself with our studio. For some people pre-booking helps to plan their week, while for others they find it easier and less time consuming to sign in upon arrival.
There are many different styles of yoga. Some styles are fast paced and vigorous while others are very gentle, restorative and slow-moving. It all comes down to personal preference. We recommend starting with us on a 2-week unlimited pass as this means you can try all the styles which we offer at our studio.
There are so many styles of yoga, which one is right for me?
At The Nest, we have a reasonable expiry date on our each of our passes. It is up to you to choose the appropriate pass for your current situation and then to use it within the expiry date. See below for breakdown:
1 month unlimited - one month from date of purchase
3 month unlimited - three months from date of purchase
10 class pass - 6 months from date of purchase
5 class pass - 3 months from date of purchase
Single class - 1 month from date of purchase
2 week unlimited intro pass - 2 weeks of unlimited yoga from the day of purchase
Will my pass expire?
Can I pause my account?
We understand that 'life' happens and there are times that events happen beyond your control. Your contract agreement upon purchase is that The Nest may pause your account up to 6 weeks every quarter and we will honour this in a case-by-case basis upon the discretion of the studio manager. Please contact the studio manager to discuss your situation.
In most cases the answer to that question is yes. In fact, yoga is an excellent way to support the body in its healing process. Yoga can be great for rehabilitation from injuries, regaining strength, and body alignment. Please ensure you talk to our instructors before the class and to explain the situation so they can help you adjust your practice.
Is it safe to do yoga if I have an injury or medical condition?
Do I need to be flexible to come to yoga?
No flexibility or experience is required to practice yoga. Leave your expectations and ego at the door. If you can breathe and move in the right direction, you will benefit from yoga.
Yes, becuase we are growing we regularly change our timetable and ask you to please check online if you haven’t joined us for a while.
Does the timetable change?
We recommend regular practice. 4-6 times per week for maximum benefit. 2-3 times per week will show improvement for most students within three months.
How often should I take yoga classes?
Firstly, CONGRATULATIONS!! It is advised not to practice yoga in the first 6 weeks of your pregnancy due to risk of miscarriage. We do offer pregnancy specific pregnancy courses and suggest to check out our Events page to see if there is one starting soon. Yoga and meditation is a great way to support your body and the newly forming body of your child. If you do attend a regular class, let the teacher know you are pregnant, and avoid any postures that involve pressure on the pelvis, navel, or heavy breathing.
I have just found out that I am pregnant, should I do yoga?
Our classes are open to anyone and full rate is charged for children over 10 years. We do ask you to please be aware of your child’s presence, and accept full responsibility for them at all times. We do suggest that under <10 years should attend our kids yoga course which we run for ages 6-10 and toddlers should attend our course for ages 2-4 years. Can I bring my child to class with me?
We offer a spacious unisex bathroom, that may also be used for changing. At our New Lynn studio, we do not have showers.
Do you have changing facilities and showers?
Our New Lynn store has plenty of on-site car parking (please ensure you do not park in the 15-minute parks). If you join us during the day or in the morning you can enjoy your yoga class, do your organic grocery shopping and pick up a chai latte on the way out.
Is there car parking available?
We do have a high-level of studio etiquette and ask all students to:
Be on time.
Turn your mobile phone onto flight mode.
Leave personal belongings in reception.
Remove your shoes before entering yoga room.
Speak quietly in the studio.
Stay home and rest if you have a flu or cold.
Rest in Savasana, it is important and we all need it.
